This painting, titled 'MacRitchie Reservoir,' depicts a tranquil water reservoir during the early hours of the morning, bordered by numerous flowering shrubs. Originally named ‘Impounding Reservoir,’ it was renamed in 1922 after James MacRitchie, the Municipal Engineer of Singapore, to commemorate his work on the water supply and reservoir expansion. Opened as a park in 1967, the 12-hectare MacRitchie Reservoir Park is now a popular destination for nature and sports enthusiasts, offering activities such as jogging, tai chi, canoeing, and photography. The park features 12 trails with unique flora and fauna, designed to blend into the natural surroundings, ranging from unpaved roads covered with leaf litter to wooden boardwalks beneath the canopy.
