by artist Aaron Yap

Through his narrative-driven approach — a result of his love of reading stories — Aaron Yap depicts the homes of his otherworldly creatures. Featured are imagined environments in the Atlantic Ocean and a rocky river terrain in Canada. Through his two paintings, Yap evokes a sentimental sense of nostalgia. However, instead of depicting the sense of ‘belonging’ through the creature’s physical boundaries, what underlines both paintings are the emotional connection and security associated with the closely knit Mergazelle family he has conceived.

This is the story of the big fish hole lake in Canada. It is the 2nd Home of Mergazelle family. Mergazelles construct the floating logs over the lake so they can jump around & having fun. The mergazelle was standing on a rock because it can be seen or far away in the fish hole lake. During the daytime, it takes a nap to sunbathe in the sand beside the fish hole.
