About Zhang Kaini

Kaini was a Mandarin teacher in Singapore before a fatal car accident led to her spinal cord injury. While many would despair, Kaini did not allow her paralysed body to define her. Inspired by Joni Eareckson, a fellow quadriplegic turned artist and author, Kaini taught herself to paint with her mouth. From learning to grip a brush between her teeth whilst holding it steady, to applying adequate pressure and multiple layers to achieve her desired effect, Kaini was undaunted even if the process left her fatigued and dizzy. Today, her stunning paintings of the natural world are in great demand among corporate clients for their intricacy, depth and beauty.
