Hugh Lee’s ALSTOM R151 Connects East to West is a detailed depiction of the artist’s favourite train on Singapore’s East-West Line. The painting captures two distinct views: the ALSTOM R151 leaving Joo Koon and arriving at Eunos. Inspired by his daily commute, Hugh uses a combination of standard colours and Omni Paint to create a striking contrast between the train, its supporting structures, and the surrounding environment. The detailed brushwork, especially in the train’s windows and the layered sky, reflects Lee’s deep appreciation for Singapore’s public transport system and its technological advancements.
