This vibrant painting of Beach Road captures one of Singapore’s historic urban corridors, where heritage shophouses, military landmarks, and modern developments exist in layered contrast along a constantly evolving streetscape. Through rich, expressive colours, Raymond Lau transforms the familiar thoroughfare into a vivid recollection of movement, light, and everyday city life.
The composition reflects Beach Road as both a bustling artery and a place of memory—where old and new Singapore intersect in a continuous flow of traffic, people, and architectural change.

About Raymond Lau
Raymond Lau belongs to a new generation of Singaporean artists who are at the forefront of the city-state’s evolution into a Renaissance City. A vocal and colourful individual, he views painting as a therapeutic process that enables him to find peace and fulfilment. His large body of realist and abstract works thus reveal a gentler, softer side to his outgoing personality. Accolades to his name include the UOB Painting of the Year 1993 and Young Artist Award 2001.
